Analysis of Deck
For the purpose of analysis, it was assumed that the design pre-stress
on the tendons was 50 kips (220 kN). To allow for initial losses,
we reduced the force assumed to be applied to the tendon by 25 kips
(1100 kN), and neglected long term losses. This was considered reasonable
based on the standard practice of reduction of pre-stress loads
and the actual loads measured during field test; and seemed to be
representative of the condition we could expect to exist in the
present deck. Based on these assumptions, the service load that
a repaired deck should safely support would be 300 psf (1465 kg/m2)
distributed over the entire deck, or the maximum operating concentrated
load exerted by a 15 ton crane at the midspan of the deck, between
supporting steel beams.
